ICPR 2024 Abstract

Integrating the Psychedelic Renaissance and Broader Drug Policy Reform

The psychedelic renaissance is rarely viewed in tandem with the broader drug policy reform agenda and movement. Psychedelic exceptionalism is both understandable and unfortunate. Psychedelics have, like other psychoactive substances, been stigmatized and criminalized.  Science and personal experience both play powerful roles in transforming public and individual awareness of the value and dangers of all psychoactive substances. The world of illicit drug harm reduction has much to learn from developments with psychedelic medicine and policy. At the same time, participants in the psychedelic renaissance have an intellectual and moral obligation to refrain from popular misconceptions regarding other stigmatized substances.
